Description
A classic comfort food that combines flavorful ground beef patties with rich, creamy gravy and savory onions.
Ingredients
- 2 lbs Ground beef (80/20 blend for best flavor)
- 1/2 cup Breadcrumbs (plain or seasoned)
- 1 Egg (beaten)
- 1 Onion (finely diced)
- 2 tsp Salt
- 1 tsp Black pepper
- 3 tbsp Butter (salted or unsalted)
- 3 tbsp All-purpose flour (for thickening gravy)
- 2 cups Beef broth (low sodium preferred)
- 1 cup Heavy cream
- 1 Onion (sliced)
- 1 tsp Garlic powder
Instructions
- In a large bowl, gently mix the ground beef, breadcrumbs, beaten egg, diced onion, salt, and pepper until combined.
- Form the mixture into 6–8 oval-shaped patties and let them rest.
- In an oven-safe skillet, brown the patties for 3–4 minutes on each side until golden, then remove them and set aside.
- Using the same skillet, melt the butter and sauté the sliced onions until they’re soft.
- Sprinkle in the flour and stir for about 2 minutes, then gradually whisk in the beef broth and heavy cream, stirring until smooth.
- Nestle the browned patties back into the skillet with the gravy. Cover tightly and bake at 350°F for 45 minutes, then uncover and bake for an additional 15 minutes.
- Once done, remove from the oven and allow it to rest for 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
Letting the dish rest before serving allows the juices to redistribute, enhancing flavor and texture. You can make ingredient substitutions as desired.
