Homemade Falafel

Description

Crispy balls of seasoned chickpea goodness, perfect for wraps or as a salad topping.

Ingredients

  • 1 can chickpeas, drained and rinsed
  • 1/2 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon coriander
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Oil for frying (if choosing the frying method)

Instructions

  1. In a food processor, combine the chickpeas, onion, garlic, parsley, cilantro, cumin, coriander, baking powder, salt, and pepper. Blend until the mixture is well combined but not completely pureed; you want some texture.
  2. Form the mixture into small balls or patties, making sure they hold together well.
  3. For fried falafel, heat oil in a deep pan over medium heat. Gently fry the falafel balls until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes on each side. For a baked option, preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C), place the falafel on a baking sheet, and bake for 25-30 minutes until golden, flipping halfway through.
  4. Serve warm in wraps, pitas, or alongside salads.

Notes

Falafel is highly versatile; try serving it in a pita with veggies and tahini or as a topping for salads.
