A delightful twist on traditional meatloaf, infusing the flavors of French onion soup for a comforting and innovative dish.
Ingredients
- 1 ½ pounds ground beef
- 1 large onion, caramelized
- 1 cup shredded cheese (Swiss or Gruyère)
- ½ cup breadcrumbs
- ¼ cup milk
- 1 large egg
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Ketchup or barbecue sauce (for topping, optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large skillet, caramelize the onions over medium heat until golden brown and allow them to cool slightly.
- In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, caramelized onions, shredded cheese, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, minced garlic, thyme, salt, and pepper. Mix until well blended.
- Shape the meat mixture into a loaf and place it in a baking dish. Optionally, spread ketchup or barbecue sauce on top.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 1 hour, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (70°C).
- Allow the meatloaf to rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
Notes
For a lighter version, consider using ground turkey. Allow leftovers to cool before storing in an airtight container for up to 3-4 days in the fridge.
