French Onion Meatloaf

Description

A delightful twist on traditional meatloaf, infusing the flavors of French onion soup for a comforting and innovative dish.

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ pounds ground beef
  • 1 large onion, caramelized
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (Swiss or Gruyère)
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs
  • ¼ cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Ketchup or barbecue sauce (for topping, optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large skillet, caramelize the onions over medium heat until golden brown and allow them to cool slightly.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, caramelized onions, shredded cheese, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, minced garlic, thyme, salt, and pepper. Mix until well blended.
  4. Shape the meat mixture into a loaf and place it in a baking dish. Optionally, spread ketchup or barbecue sauce on top.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for about 1 hour, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (70°C).
  6. Allow the meatloaf to rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

For a lighter version, consider using ground turkey. Allow leftovers to cool before storing in an airtight container for up to 3-4 days in the fridge.
