Description

A crunchy, golden crust with a soft, cheesy center infused with bright garlic-herb flavors. Perfect for gatherings, dinners, or as a side to soups and salads.

Ingredients

  • 1 medium artisan loaf or boule (about 11.5 lb)
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
  • 34 large garlic cloves, minced
  • 3/4 cup finely grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons finely chopped fresh parsley
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • Pinch of crushed red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and position a rack in the middle.
  2. In a bowl, mash the butter with olive oil. Stir in garlic, Parmesan, parsley, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes.
  3. Make diagonal cuts along the loaf about 1 inch apart, without slicing all the way through.
  4. Push garlic-parmesan butter into each cut and spread any remaining mixture on top.
  5. Wrap the bottom of the loaf in foil, place on a baking sheet, and bake for 12–18 minutes until the cheese is bubbly.
  6. For extra color, open the foil and broil on high for 1–2 minutes.
  7. Let rest for 2–3 minutes before slicing.

Notes

Use vegan butter and plant-based cheese for a dairy-free version. Adjust slicing and bake time if using a baguette.
