A comforting and nostalgic Green Bean Casserole with a creamy base and crunchy onion topping, perfect for holidays and family dinners.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups fresh green beans, trimmed and blanched
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 cup French fried onions, divided
  • 1/2 cup sliced mushrooms (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon butter (optional, for sautéing mushrooms)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. If using, sauté mushrooms in butter until tender.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together cream of mushroom soup, milk, garlic powder (if using), salt, and pepper.
  4. Add green beans (and mushrooms, if using) to the mixture and toss well.
  5. Transfer mixture to a casserole dish, spreading it evenly.
  6. Bake for 20-25 minutes until hot and bubbly.
  7. Stir in half of the fried onions and top with remaining onions.
  8. Return to oven and bake for an additional 5-7 minutes until onions are golden brown.

Notes

For a lighter version, use reduced-fat soup or a homemade alternative. Adjust flavors with soy sauce or Worcestershire sauce for umami.
