Description
A comforting baked ziti dish combining al dente pasta, marinara, and a mix of gooey cheeses, perfect for weeknights or gatherings.
Ingredients
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 onion, finely chopped (about ½ cup)
- 1 large egg
- 5 cups marinara sauce
- 1 lb dried ziti
- Freshly ground black pepper
- 1 tsp sea salt
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 8 oz mozzarella cheese
- ½ cup Parmesan cheese
- 8 slices provolone cheese
- 1 cup whole milk ricotta cheese
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Heat the olive oil over medium heat in a large skillet and sauté the chopped onion and minced garlic until the onion turns translucent.
- Combine the cooked ziti, sautéed onion and garlic, marinara sauce, ricotta cheese, egg, salt, and black pepper in a large bowl. Mix well.
- Layer half of the ziti mixture in a baking dish, followed by half of the mozzarella and provolone cheese. Repeat the layering process.
- Pour the remaining marinara sauce over the top and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.
- Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes.
- Remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 15 minutes or until the cheese is bubbling and golden.
- Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
For best results, do not overcook ziti before baking; it should be just under al dente. Can be prepared ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator.
