Description

A comforting baked ziti dish combining al dente pasta, marinara, and a mix of gooey cheeses, perfect for weeknights or gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 onion, finely chopped (about ½ cup)
  • 1 large egg
  • 5 cups marinara sauce
  • 1 lb dried ziti
  • Freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 tsp sea salt
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 8 oz mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup Parmesan cheese
  • 8 slices provolone cheese
  • 1 cup whole milk ricotta cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Heat the olive oil over medium heat in a large skillet and sauté the chopped onion and minced garlic until the onion turns translucent.
  3. Combine the cooked ziti, sautéed onion and garlic, marinara sauce, ricotta cheese, egg, salt, and black pepper in a large bowl. Mix well.
  4. Layer half of the ziti mixture in a baking dish, followed by half of the mozzarella and provolone cheese. Repeat the layering process.
  5. Pour the remaining marinara sauce over the top and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.
  6. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes.
  7. Remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 15 minutes or until the cheese is bubbling and golden.
  8. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

For best results, do not overcook ziti before baking; it should be just under al dente. Can be prepared ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator.
