Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (15 oz) kidney beans, drained (optional)
- 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
- 1 can (15 oz) diced tomatoes
- 2 tbsp chili powder
- 1 tsp cumin
- 1 tsp paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 cups beef broth
- Optional toppings: shredded cheese, sour cream, chopped green onions
Instructions
- In a large pot, brown the ground beef over medium heat, breaking it apart as it cooks. Drain any excess fat.
- Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the pot and cook until the onion becomes translucent and fragrant, about 3-4 minutes.
- Stir in the chili powder, cumin, paprika, salt, and pepper, mixing them well with the meat and vegetables.
- Incorporate the diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, and beef broth, along with the kidney beans if using. Stir well.
- Bring the chili to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for at least 30 minutes.
- Serve the chili hot, adding your favorite toppings as desired.
Notes
For a vegetarian version, substitute ground beef with ground turkey or a plant-based meat alternative. You can enhance flavor by adding jalapeños, cayenne pepper, dark chocolate, or a splash of beer.
