Description

Create festive winter-themed cookies that are perfect for decorating with friends and family during the holiday season.

Ingredients

  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • Food coloring (gel works best)
  • Royal icing (easy to prepare)
  • Assorted holiday sprinkles, edible glitter, and decorations

Instructions

  1. Cream together the butter and sugar in a large bowl until light and fluffy.
  2. Add in the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the flour and baking powder, gradually adding this dry mix to the wet ingredients until fully combined.
  4. Divide the dough into smaller portions, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for about an hour.
  5. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  6. Roll out the chilled dough on a floured surface and use cookie cutters to create festive shapes.
  7. Place the cookies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for about 8-10 minutes or until the edges are slightly golden. Let them cool completely.
  8. While the cookies cool, prepare your royal icing and color it with desired food coloring.
  9. Decorate the cooled cookies with the icing, sprinkles, and edible glitter.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for about a week. For longer storage, freeze undecorated cookies layered with parchment.
