Description
Create festive winter-themed cookies that are perfect for decorating with friends and family during the holiday season.
Ingredients
- 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- Food coloring (gel works best)
- Royal icing (easy to prepare)
- Assorted holiday sprinkles, edible glitter, and decorations
Instructions
- Cream together the butter and sugar in a large bowl until light and fluffy.
- Add in the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla extract.
- In another bowl, whisk together the flour and baking powder, gradually adding this dry mix to the wet ingredients until fully combined.
- Divide the dough into smaller portions, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for about an hour.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Roll out the chilled dough on a floured surface and use cookie cutters to create festive shapes.
- Place the cookies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for about 8-10 minutes or until the edges are slightly golden. Let them cool completely.
- While the cookies cool, prepare your royal icing and color it with desired food coloring.
- Decorate the cooled cookies with the icing, sprinkles, and edible glitter.
Notes
Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for about a week. For longer storage, freeze undecorated cookies layered with parchment.
